NSW Parliamentary Inquiry Submission: Reducing Road Trauma in Regional NSW
Client: National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO)

Overview
Prepared NTRO’s formal written submission to the NSW Parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Road Safety (Staysafe) for the Inquiry into interventions to reduce road trauma in regional NSW. The submission addressed the Committee’s full Terms of Reference, including research, policy gaps, system-wide recommendations, and Safe System-aligned reforms.

What I did
-
Developed a clear, well-structured, and evidence-based written submission responding to all five Terms of Reference, including research analysis, evaluation of current strategies, and proposed system-level interventions.
-
Synthesised complex technical and behavioural road safety evidence into accessible and persuasive policy language suitable for parliamentarians and non-technical readers.
-
Used structured writing, logic flow, and rhetorical framing to build a compelling argument for Safe System reforms in regional NSW.
-
Integrated data analysis, research findings, visuals, and policy critique drawn from NTRO work, crash trends, and the 2023 Auditor-General’s Report.
-
Collaborated with the National Lead for Transport Safety and internal subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and alignment with NTRO’s national position.
-
The quality of the submission resulted in NTRO being invited to attend and speak at the inquiry hearing, where the National Lead provided evidence.
Outcome
A strong, credible parliamentary submission that elevated NTRO’s voice in state-level road safety policy discussions and directly contributed to NTRO’s invitation to present at the inquiry hearing.
