Editorial: “Zara, Your Website Sucks — And I Know Why”
personal project
Overview
Wrote an engaging editorial analysing why Zara’s website frustrates users and how its confusing design choices are intentional. Combined UX critique, cultural insight and humour to unpack how the site’s friction-heavy design shapes user behaviour and influences buying psychology.

What I did
-
Conducted a UX-led research and breakdown of Zara’s site structure, navigation, product pages and interaction patterns.
-
Explained complex design concepts in clear, accessible language for a non-technical audience.
-
Used humour, cultural references and relatable examples to keep the piece entertaining and easy to read.
-
Provided a content design perspective on how information hierarchy, imagery and layout impact user behaviour.
-
Positioned the critique within a wider trend of minimalism, digital fashion and deliberate friction in e commerce.
-
Structured the article for readability on Substack, balancing narrative storytelling with practical insight.
Outcome
Showcasing my voice as a writer, as well as my analytical skills and ability to translate UX principles into engaging long-form commentary. I hope to also grow my portfolio of thought pieces blending design, culture and user experience.
